So here we are, inside.
The world's been closed off, and the little things we took for granted aren't as easily accessible as they once were. Now, I'm not here to give a rant about the Coronavirus (although, I will say please stay inside as much as possible and wear a mask), I'm here to offer a bit of sunshine on a cloudy day.
Throughout the year that I've lived in the Philippines, I started appreciating street food. One of the most memorable treats I treated myself with was banana-cue after class. Banana-cue is basically a play on the word "barbecue," as it is traditionally served on a stick for easy eating. Imagine a golden saba banana, encrusted with a delicious caramel coating, and there you have it. During my stay indoors, I began to miss taking the jeep to school, seeing my classmates, and occasionally ending the day with a stick of banana-cue in hand. It really is the little things, isn't it?
When my parents came to visit me a couple weeks ago, my mom decided to make banana-cue. I had forgotten how simple it was to make (not to mention quite cheap and cost-effective). So today, I'd like to share this easy recipe to make your own Pinoy classic at home.

Banana-Cue
1 Bunch of Golden Saba Bananas (These work best!) , peeled
A bunch of brown sugar (there's not an exact amount, but just enough to sprinkle in every batch)
Enough oil to fill half a frying pan (We used coconut oil, but palm oil works really well)

1) Heat the oil on medium heat till it feels hot when you place your hand over it. Place the peeled bananas

2) As they cook, sprinkle a generous amount of brown sugar onto the bananas. Once they turn golden brown and the brown sugar has melted, transfer onto a plate.
(Optional: you can skewer them on a bamboo stick, to feel as though you bought it on the streets of Cebu)
Enjoy :)
